The Lights are Beautiful

Downtown San Antonio at night is beautiful with lights on just about on every building.   From a distance with a good camera and a high location you can take very nice pictures.   This first picture was taken with my Nikon coolpix S9900 digital camera that I always carry with me.  I was on top of the parking lot located on the university od Incarnate word, which is just north of the downtown area.  I will definitely have to come back and take more pictures with my Nikon d7100.

The Alamo is always a nice location to visit but when it's the Christmas season, and the Valero Bowl within a week of each other, then that makes for a lot of people in the downtown area walking around.

The riverwalk is also a nice setting and there are restaurants throughout the riverwalk, too many to count.  My wife and I have eaten at some of them and we have also tried the Margaritas at some of the locations.

Throughout the riverwalk there are bridges were you can cross over in case you see a restaurant you would want to try out.  On this evening there were a lot of people on the riverwalk and downtown area which makes for careful walking along the riverwalk.  If you're not careful you could end up accidentally falling in the river.   The good thing about it is it's only about 3 to 4 feet deep.

Some big name Hotels are also located on the riverwalk and are a little pricey, but they are very nice. My wife and I stayed at the La Valencia for a couple of nights and also the Menger hotel.   What great about it is in case you both want to have a couple of drinks, there are bars and restaurants that are within walking distance of the hotels.

Hats

You can find just about anything downtown.  On this cloudy day we went downtown to look for a hat for my father in law.   Naturally I wanted to take pictures of everything I could take a picture of.   My father in law heard of a hat place on Broadway street downtown and it turned out to be Paris Hatters at 119 Broadway.   Here are some pictures of that nice little Hat shop and the surrounding area.

Inside the store are thousands of hats and whatever flavor you're looking for, they probably have it.  The service doesn't stop with the buying of your hat, they'll also make sure it fits to your liking and if you have any problems with it, you can take it back and they'll work with you.

As you can see, besides hats, they have a good selection of boots to pick from and if you ride a horse they have a couple of saddles that might interest you.

Next year will be their 100 year anniversary at this location.

The Alamo

The Alamo always has visitors walking around it, and it' next to impossible getting a picture of the Alamo with with no one in it, unless of course if you're there Christmas morning.  Thats right, on this day my wife and I got up before the sun came up to get some pictures of the Alamo and the downtown area.  It was like a ghost town.   The only people there were the Alamo guards who protect it 24 hours a day 7 days a week, everyday throughout the year.

Across from the Alamo is a cenotaph that has all the names of the defenders of the Alamo which is pretty nice.  Of course none of the businesses are open downtown and like I said, it's a ghost town with no people or vehicles driving around.  Any other day other than Christmas, the Alamo is crowded with sightseers and small vendors selling items,  and even amateur artists painting a picture of the Alamo.

Have a great day.

Lets get started

Now that I am retired, I can spend more time on this blog.   The plan is to post picture of San Antonio Texas, and surrounding areas close by.   Of course I'll have a story to go along with the pictures and since I always carry a camera hopefully you'll be able to see San Antonio Texas.   Like I said in my other Blog page (The Outdoors on Borrowed Time), I am not an english scholar and did not excel in english in High School which was 40years ago.   I am retired and I have several dslr cameras that I love messing around with the settings so consequently I take numerous pictures.  So let me show you San Antonio Texas.
